FOR RECRUITMENT TO POSTS IN BS-17 UNDER THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
               TOWN PLANNING & URBAN MANAGEMENT
TIME ALLOWED:  THREE HOURS
PART-I(MCQS):     MAXIMUM 30 MINUTES
PART-I (MCQS)              MAXIMUM MARKS = 20 PART-II           MAXIMUM MARKS = 80
NOTE: (i)     Part-II is to be attempted on the separate Answer Book.
(ii)          Attempt ONLY FOUR questions from PART-II. Elucidate your answers with SKETCHES, DIAGRAM and FLOW CHARTS. ALL questions carry EQUAL marks.
(iii)        All the parts (if any) of each Question must be attempted at one place instead of at different places.
(iv)        Candidate must write Q. No. in the Answer Book in accordance with Q. No. in the Q.Paper.
(v)          No Page/Space be left blank between the answers. All the blank pages of Answer Book must be crossed.
(vi)        Extra attempt of any question or any part of the attempted question will not be considered.
PART-II
Q. No. 2. Explain the role of town planner as a “technocrat who leads a team of engineers, (20) architects, sociologists, urban economists, geographers, and environmentalists to ensure rational decision making by politician regarding the future investment for development”.
Q. No. 3.    Urbanization –is it a curse or blessing? Explain your answer with example in both          (20) cases.
Q. No. 4. Pakistan was regarded as one of the fastest growing nation of the world in mid 60s and (20) its 5 years plans were used by some nation to boast their economic development. Explain the planning mechanism of Pakistan in historic perspective and identify loopholes in the existing mechanism.
Q. No. 5. Land use zoning has been used as a tool to control development stringently. But has (20) this policy helped the job of a development planner? Explain your answer with examples from both developing and developed world and suggest its appropriateness or otherwise for our cities.
Q. No. 6. How relevant Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are for ensuring safe and efficient (20) urban mobility in Pakistan? What do you understand about system architecture of ITS? Suggest a deployment mechanism, both logical and physical for a typical city of Pakistan.
Q. No. 7. Why policies are important in socio-economic development perspective? Explain (20) behavioral as well as structural views of policy formulation.
